YDACS Student Video Games for the May/June e-conference
by YDACS . - Wednesday, 4 April 2007, 09:49 AM
Please post your video games and an explanation of your game by Replying to this post and attaching your game.

This is ONLY for YDACS video game design students. Please do not post your name, grade, or where you are from.

The current maximum size is 10MB. Please let us know if you need more space.

We would love to see games that you used for class like Cassie's marine biology game in this forum but we are also looking for your creativity.

Two and possibly four games will be selected for the e-conference or in the Video Game Design CyberStudio. The selected students will receive $50. The selected students must be willing to present their game during the e-conference or in the Video Game Design CyberStudio; the games can be presented from home or possibly school, your library, or community technology center. The demonstration will include showing how to play their game and the code used to make it.

YDACS will use some or all of the games uploaded for several purposes including but not limited to:
  • For others to view in these forums
  • For YDACS promotional material
  • For a CD illustrating brilliant young game developers!
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Re: Call for Most Excellent YDACS Student Games - Most Important comments from a past student
by YDACS . - Thursday, 5 April 2007, 08:16 AM
We have received some questions about our call for student games so here are some answers.
  1. All Current and Past YDACS video game design students can submit their video games.

  2. Games must be submitted by 4/27/07.
-----------------
We are very proud of comments we received yesterday from the mother of one of our past homeschool students so we are sharing them below.

My son was a student and has been pursuing Video Game designing ever since. He utilizes MMF2 and his games are masterful. He is almost 13 and took all VGD courses, I believe, a couple years ago. May he enter this ? We homeschool and your classes have catapulted him into his passion of designing games.

We can't wait to see everyone's games so the world can play amazing games created by YDACS students!

Thanks!

This is my game, it took about 5 month's and in it you basically have to beat all the time zones. In some time zones I used material that has really happened. I hope Everybody enjoys trying to beat it.

  Cool welcome screen!

For some reason we just stay on level one even when we slayed the skeleton and spider and exited screen right we wrapped and entered the same level from the left.

Please let us know if we are doing something wrong.

Thanks!

you have to kill the ghost that the skeleton shoots to beat the level if you dont it will not let you go onto the next level. sorry about that. in some levels cant move on unless you do certain things.

I think this should've gone in the instructions page for my RPG game, but to access levels or go places, you mostly have to click on a lot of stuff. Eg: When you start in your house, you can click on the machine to refill your lives and baseballs, and when you click on the door, you go outside. Or if you click on a door to another house.

We didn't realize that we could click on stuff since this is the first game that a student has made that has clicking on stuff!  GREAT STUFF!

Thanks!

Wow, I also forgot to include that for the Gargoyal Battle and the Final Battle, to defeat the enemy you have to hold shift when next to the left or right of the frame to propel yourself upwards. Thanks!

My game is super fun I added things that made my game a little harder and a lot more fun. I added things like some more trees, some rocks, a few chests that you score points from, and a big one-eyed alien dude.

We created a standalone game and uploaded it as an ".exe" file so we can just download it and play it without needing Multimedia Fusion.

This is the first game we won!

This is my game. I only followed the videos and it's my first time, so it's not real fancy. I really got into the game, even though I am not a guy. So girls...check this one out!

That is one good looking game! Nice design work. Can your Mad Scientist shoot stuff to defeat your enemies?  We noticed that your play and exit buttons are flipped.

Thanks!

Here is a game my mom made after I taught her what I learned in VGD 101 and 102.  She's obsessed with the exploding mad scientist.  But I still think it's a pretty good game for a grownup who never played any video games.

  Hey Mom,

That's a great game.  We really like the introduction screen and how it explains everything we need to know to play the game.

Thanks!

  WOW!!

SOLTU is a lot of fun and those are some of the best levels we have seen so far.  We really like the story and how it builds from level to level.  It will take us a while to figure this one out.

We want everyone to know that this game developer is 9 years old!

Thanks!

This is my first game. I tried to follow the directions as much as possible. I did add a few things like mushrooms and one tree from another game. The controls for the character are right arrow key for forward, left arrow key for back. I used shift for the jump key and control for the shoot button.

This is Bodow!!!!! It is a work in progres here at home but it runs like a real game!!! Here are a few things that for you and me...

1. If you press the "E" key you will "jump" to the end of the curent level. On "THE BIG LEVEL" you must "pop" all the balons (press p to do this quickly)...

2. Can you please send a reply to Audra Hall with how to "publish" (make it so that I can run Bodow as a game without needing MMF2) that would be Great!!!!!!

Thank you,

Here is Bodow.  Real cool stuff!

Did you create the clown?

Just so you know, you could have easily created the application like we did and it's only 4MB whereas your code was 12MB.

Thx!

Announcing the selected games!!! Drum roll please...

Jason's game Soltu! Jason is a California 9 year old and has not only developed a fun and interesting game but has also taught his mom how to create her own game! You can download and play both of their games. Jason is also working on developing some cool animations using the software taught in VGD103, Toon Boom Studio. We will create an Animation Student Gallery to post some of his animations there.

Jake's game Revolution! Jake is a South Carolina 12 year old who started taking our courses when he was 10. Jake's game is amazing because he took all three of our video game design courses and then jumped off and figured out how to develop a Role Playing Game which is not something we taught in our courses! We will be working with Jake to develop a course on how to design and create RPGs using Multimedia Fusion!

Please download and play their games for free! They will be famous digital artists and game developers someday and you can say you played their first games.

Congratulations Jason and Jake!!

To download and play Student Games please go to www.YDACS.com and then the Student Gallery.

  Hi Luke,

Please post a .EXE and not the .MFA by starting a new post in Public Discussions.  Just go to File - Build - Application to make the "find_the_dot.EXE."

We will delete the "find_the_dot.mfa" files.

Thanks!
